| The
Acura SLX sold for only 3 years, and only in the
United States. It was an upgraded Isuzu Trooper
with a 3.5 L V6 engine pumping out 215 hp. |

Reports tested the Acura SLX against other SUVs
for a 1998 issue. The SLX tipped up on 2 wheels
during one test, resulting in a failing mark for
the vehicle. The Acura MDX, which is actually based
on the Honda Accord (strange, isn't it?), was the
unofficial replacement of the SLX. One unique feature
of the SLX was the two mode transmission. The four-speed
automatic had a Winter mode and a Power mode. The
Winter mode provided more torque but less high-end
power, to prevent wheel spinning and provide more
grip. Even in Power mode the SLX was sluggish, as
it was a very heavy vehicle for its size. |
