| The
AMC AMX is a shorter, sporty version of the AMC
Javelin that was produced from 1968 to 1970. It
was called the Best Engineered Car of the Year by
the AASE in 1969 and 1970. The V8 came in 290, 343,
360 and 390 version, which made the car very fast
considering its small body. |

| The
AMX broke many speed records in its 3 years, including
fastest average speed over 24 hours (130 mph). Since
the AMX was a limited production car, there were
less than 20,000 produced in 3 years. The rarest
are the Hurst SS/AMX versions. Only 54 of those
drag race cars were produced. The AMX is probably
the most overlooked car of the muscle car era. It
had some of the best performance numbers, but because
AMC was a company that the public was not familiar
with they never became very popular. Even today,
they are undervalued in the collectors market, although
I expect that to change. An active owner's club
keeps track of member cars, and parts are available
online (see left side of this page). |
