| The
AMC Javelin was built to compete with cars like
the Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro. It made its debut
in 1968 with a variety of engine options, from an
economical straight 6 to a powerful V8. |

| Some
of the trim options include the SST - which had
a touch of luxury, and the Big Bad paint option,
which also included a curious roof spoiler. That
spoiler became important when the Javelin entered
the Trans-Am circuit. The top engine was a 401 AMC
V8 engineered to run at 8000 rpm. In the collecting
world, the earlier versions of the Javelin hold
the highest values, despite the fact that the humped
fender version offered from 1971 to 1974 had much
better performance numbers. The Javelin AMX with
Pierre Cardin interior and 401 V8 engine is one
of the most undervalued collector cars on the market
today, and I expect it to skyrocket in value over
the next 10 years. Parts for Javelins are available
online (see links on the left), but you'll have
to do some searching. |
