| The
AMC Spirit replaced the Gremlin in 1979. The Spirit
would be the final car to carry the AMC badge, making
it popular among AMC fans. The Spirit was discontinued
in 1983, but when Chrysler bought AMC they began
using the Spirit name on a new model from Dodge. |

| The
AMC Spirit had a V8 option available. The 304 V8
from AMC was not very powerful, so it is common
for Spirit owners to swap out that engine with much
more powerful engines, such as a 360 or 401 V8.
This engine swap is fairly easy to do, as there
is lots of room under the hood of a Spirit. With
very large engines and a small body, the AMC Spirit
is capable of becoming a high performance sleeper
car. |
