| The
Audi 90 has gone by many different names, depending
on when and where it was sold. It was the Audi Fox,
Audi 80, and Audi 4000. Technically, the Audi 90
is an upscale version of the Audi 80. |

| Sharing
a platform with the Volkswagen Passat, the Audi
90 was sold as a coupe, sedan, and convertible from
1972 to 1995. In the United States, it started as
the Fox and was considered a rival to the Ford Taunus
- a car sold exclusively in Germany and not to be
confused with the Ford Taurus. In some countries,
the early Audi 90 was sold as a convertible nearly
identical to the Volkswagen Passat Variant. By the
1990's, the Audi 90 was being sold in America with
V6 or inline 5 engine options. The coupe version
of the car was effectively replaced by the Audi
TT, while the sedans were replaced by the A4. Many
used Audi 90 cars are still around today, because
they were around for over 20 years. For parts matching,
look for cars made under the same platform (B1,
B2, B3, or B4) and same type (Type 80, Type 81,
Type 82, etc). This can be confusing, which is probably
why Audi has revamped its naming system. |
