| The
Audi A4 is classified as a midsize luxury car. It
was first produced in 1995 as a 1996 model, and
it replaced the Audi 90 (known as the Audi 80 outside
the United States). There have been 3 generations
of the A4, and it is still being made by Audi today.

| The
original Audi A4 was built on the Volkswagen B5
platform. Its engine was mounted longitudinally
and it had front-wheel drive standard, although
the majority of sales are for the Quattro all-wheel-drive
system. Engine choices were vast, especially for
European consumers, who could get a variety of diesel
engines along with the standard gasoline powered
ones. The latest A4, based on the B7 platform, features
a 2.0 L DOHC turbo 4-cylinder with direct injection,
which pumps out 200 hp. A 255 horsepower V6 is an
available option on most A4s. |
