BMW Z8 is one of the rare supercars of the BMW line.

| At a
cost of $130,000 the BMW Z8 had to have something
more than the everyday BMW. It turned out to have
lots of those things, such as a 5.0 L 400 horsepower
32 valve V8 S62 engine and an all aluminum body
for the lightest weight possible. The 0 to 60 time
was around 4.7 seconds. In a test by Car and Driver
magazine, the Z8 outperformed the Ferrari 360 Modena
in the only three main performance categories: acceleration,
braking, and handling. Even at its lofty price,
the Z8 was still much cheaper than the 360 Modena,
making it a bargain Ferrari-beater. A special model
for the final year, 2003, was called the Alpina
Z8. It had a 5 speed Steptronic transmission, which
is technically an automatic, instead of the standard
6 speed manual that came with previous Z8's. Although
used Z8's are rare, they do occassionally pop up
on ebay. |
