| The
Buick Reatta was a rare hand-made luxury sports
coupe made by Buick from 1988 to 1991. It used a
shortened version of the GM E platform, making it
similar to the Cadillac Allante. |

| The
Reatta was of much higher quality than the average
Buick. The attention to detail was more similar
to an elegant supercar like a Rolls-Royce than a
mass produced car. Even the symbol on the car was
different than the standard Buick logo. Very few
GM cars can claim this. Oldsmobile would also forgo
its own logo for a model-specific logo on the Aurora.
The Reatta featured a touchscreen computer interface,
called the Electronic Control Center. This system
did everything from controlling the radio to performing
diagnostics on various parts. Sales of the car were
disappointing, with 21,751 sold in 4 years. Only
about 2,500 of those were convertibles. They can
still be found on the used car market for much cheaper
than I believe they should. This is definately the
type of car that emerges from obscurity to become
a collectible 10 to 15 years from now. Parts are
also available online, especially eBay. |
