| The
2002 Buick Rendezvous was the debut of the crossover
SUV for the Buick line. It will be replaced next
year with the 2008 Buick Enclave. They fall into
the category of "SUVs for people who don't
really want to climb a mountain with their car." |

| The
Rendezvous is technically classified as a truck
(as are most SUVs), making it the first truck in
the Buick line since 1923. It was actually produced
in the same Mexican production plant where the disgustingly
ugly Pontiac Aztec is built. One option on the Rendezvous
that has been praised is the Versatrak all wheel
drive system, which provides better control and
handling than most SUVs, but is not meant for heavy
off-road driving. The body of the car is based on
the second generation of the GM U-body. Using that
platform, Buick aimed to make a luxury SUV with
a ride as smooth as the Park
Avenue. It is $6,500 less than the comparable
Acura
MDX, and $8,000 cheaper than the Lexus RX300.
It is slightly discounted on the used market, especially
ebay. |
