| The
Allante was a luxury roadster sold by Cadillac from
1987 until 1993. It was intended to be competition
for the Mercedes-Benz SL line of roadsters. The
chassis was made in Detroit, but the body was designed
by Pininfarina and mounted to the chassis in Italy
(which certainly added to the expense of making
the Allante) |

| The
original price for this roadster was $54,000, which
made it the most expensive Cadillac and pricier
than just about any other American production car
made at the time. The car appeared in many popular
movies, including Tango & Cash, Cadillac
Man, Terminal Velocity, Lethal Weapon 3, and
Rocky V. Only 21,000 were sold, most likely
due to the high price and the recession during the
late 80's and early 90's. That makes them somewhat
rare on the used car market, but I still believe
they are underpriced. You can find them selling
for just a fraction of their new price, even in
great condition. Parts are also readily available
online, especially since it shared parts with other
GM models like the Buick
Reatta, Riviera,
and Oldsmobile
Toronado. |
