| The
Cimarron was an unusual compact car offering from
Cadillac, starting production in 1982 and ending
in 1988. It is based on the GM J-Body platform,

| A lot
of critics were baffled by the Cimarron. It was
basically a rebadged Cavalier with a lot more options.
The Cavalier was an economy car and was half the
price of its Cadillac counterpart. Even Cadillac
seemed wary of associating itself with the car,
as it was initially advertised as the Cimarron by
Cadillac rather than making it sound like it was
a true Cadillac model. The options were very luxurious
and included top-of-the-line interior and electronics.
The car became more refined towards the end of its
run, but its name was already tarnished and consumers
considered it a Cadillac Econobox. Cadillac would
not make another entry-level car of this magnitude
until the Catera
came along in 1997. The Cimarron can still be found
on the used car market, although it is much rarer
than the Cavalier from the same years. Many parts
are interchangable, and can be found on eBay. |
