| The
Fleetwood name has been used by Cadillac since 1927,
but was not put on an actual model name until 1947.
The modern versions (which I'll be writing about
here) have been in production since 1977. |

| The
first cars to use the Fleetwood model name on its
own were the 1977 Fleetwood Limousine and the 1977
Fleetwood Brougham. Both used the GM D-Body platform
and came with a huge 7.0 L L33 V8 - although the
Brougham also had an optional 5.9 L LF9 Diesel V8.
Generation 2 began in 1980 with a 6.0 L L62 V8 engine
standard for that year. That engine pumped out a
measly 140 hp. A major change came in 1985 as rear
wheel drive was abandoned for front wheel drive
and the platform was switched to the GM C-Body.
The Brougham did not go through these changes until
1986. By the late 80's the Fleetwood was little
more than a trim variation of the Cadillac DeVille.
Performance was enhanced throughout the 90's, with
an LT1 V8 with 260 horsepower available in the final
3 years: 1994 - 1995 -1996. If you are considering
buying a used Cadillac Fleetwood I would suggest
using the internet, especially eBay. Also look there
for parts. |
