| The
Series 61 was in production from 1939 until 1951,
minus the years when the United States was involved
in World War II. It was considered a compact luxury
car and replacement for the Series 60 and 65. |

| The
61 was a Fisher-body car with a 126 inch wheel base
in 1939. It had an L-head V8 just like all other
Cadillacs from that year. Throughout its production
it was only available as a 2 door club coupe and
a 4 door sedan. All models were front engine with
rear wheel drive. The OHV V8 was introduced in 1949,
and the 61 went through some major styling changes
in 1951, including a one-piece windshield and a
full body lowering. The car did not sell very well,
and it was discontinued mid-year. Finding an old
Series 61 is rare, but not too difficult, especially
using internet sites like eBay. Parts can also be
found there and at automotive swap meets. |
