3100 was the half ton pickup truck made by Chevy.
The 3/4 ton and one ton were called the 3600 and
3800, respectfully. It seems that 1947 was the first
year of this type of half ton truck although the
numbered nameplate did not appear on it at that
time, and 1959 was the final year before a renaming
and redesign. 1955 saw major changes in the first
series pickup. The 1955 models are the favorites
of many collectors and restorers today. As the small
truck in the Chevy line it was suitable for everyone
to drive, and it was common for people to buy them
for everyday use, not just use with farms and construction.
If you are looking to buy a used one, you might
be able to find a decent deal using Ebay auctions,
and you can probably find some parts there as well.
