Avalanche is part of a new breed of vehicles. I
guess it's technically correct to call it an SUV,
but SUV Truck is more accurate. It is based on full
size SUVs made by GM, such as the Suburban, but
it has an open truck bed for large cargo. |

| It went
on sale for the 2002 model year and is still being
made. It started with the GMT800 platform, but has
since moved to the GMT900 platform. Both are rear
wheel drive or optional 4 wheel drive. They have
4 full doors and seat 5 or 6 depending on seating
options (bench or individual). There are 2 engines
available: the Vortec 5.3 L V8 making 290 horsepower
or the huge 8.1 L V8 making 325 hp. It has quickly
become a favorite among custom car modders, which
makes them very popular with youth culture. One
of the most popular changes is custom wheels, the
bigger the better. Using thin tires, it is possible
to fit a 26" custom wheel on this vehicle.
Very few have hit the used car market so far. You
might be able to find a few listed on eBay (where
cars usually sell for considerably less than local
dealers) and parts (both original and outrageous
custom parts) can sometimes be found there as well. |
