| The
Caprice was Chevy's most luxuriuos full-size car
while it was in production, which was from 1965
until 1996. It was also a popular choice among fleets,
particularly police departments. |

| The
Caprice started as a trim option on the Impala,
which had been a very successful model for Chevrolet
in the 1960's. The car quickly became its own model
line. The B-body was discontinued in 1975. In the
1980's it was available as a four door sedan, two
door coupe, and 2 or 3 seat station wagon. In 1986
the Classic Brougham option was added to give a
better luxury choice to consumers. The car was restyled
in 1991 to give it a more modern look. In 1994 Chevy
upgraded the Caprice 9C1 and called it an Impala
SS, reviving that model line. By this time the Caprice
was using a de-tuned LT1 engine also used in the
Corvette. These cars became a favorite for police
forces due to their speed. They could actually beat
a 5.0 L Mustang SS4 V8 on the drag strip. They can
still be found on the used car market, and for pretty
cheap, with lots of mods available and many choices
for engine swaps. Try using eBay to find a good
restored or project car, and all the parts you'll
need. |
