| The
Chevette was an often-mocked economy car built on
the GM T Platform. It was twins with the Pontiac
T1000 and Pontiac Acadian. It's official production
run was from 1976 until 1987, although it was sold
in other markets such as Brazil until 1994. |

| In the
United States, the 1976 model of this car was a
3 door hatchback with a 1.4 or 1.6 L engine. Rallye,
Woody, and Scooter were the trim packages available.
The Scooter was a 2 seater with painted bumpers
instead of chrome and only the most basic trim elements.
Early models had a wrap down front hood with round
headlights and taillights that were tri-color. In
1984 the regular trim package was renamed the CS,
and the Scooter package was dropped in 1985. These
cars can still be found on the used car market,
but for the most part they are not considered classics,
and it will probably be a long time before they
are. There are small groups of enthusiasts and fan
clubs, and buying your own is easy using online
tools like eBay, where you can also find almost
all the parts you need (sometimes even the inline
4 cylinder engines). |
