| The
Citation was part of GM's move toward smaller cars
that didn't guzzle gas, with V6 and inline 4 engines
instead of bigger V8's. It was actually awarded
Car of the Year by Motor Trend magazine when it
was introduced in 1980. The 2.8 L LE2 V6 60 degree
engine developed for this car was the first of its
kind, and engines based off that original are still
used by GM today. The Citation ran into many problems,
however, as GM was sued by NHTSA because of control
problems under heavy breaking. There were also reliability
issues, and the paint on some models, especially
the blue ones, peeled off a very short time after
purchase. My family owned one of these cars back
then, and I have to say it ran great for over 10
years (120,000 + miles) and never had control problems.
They can still be found on the used car market,
although they are getting rarer. I suggest using
eBay if you want to buy one, or it you are looking
for parts to repair the one you already have. |
