| The
DelRay started as an option package on the full
size Bel
Air 210 line. In 1958 it became its own line,
replacing the Bel Air 150 lower end trim. It had
few options and the exterior trim was as basic as
it could get. |

| The
DelRay model was intended to be the low end of Chevrolet's
full size automobile line. For people who could
not afford even the base Bel Air and Impala models,
there was the DelRay. Even with its lack of options
and lower end trim, it still had the look of a nice
car, which chrome bumpers and a big, menacing grill
running along the entire lower front end of the
car. The model line was discontinued in 1959, and
the Biscayne became the low end full size Chevy.
The Biscayne was not a replacement, as it had existed
before the DelRay was discontinued as the second
lowest trim option available. The DelRay's are not
highly sought after by collector's, but they are
a beatiful car from the 50's era, and can be found
for very cheap on eBay (usually under $3,000). They
are a great car for someone who wants a classic
but doesn't want to spend a lot of money. Some parts
can also be found on eBay, including engine blocks
if you look at the right time. |
