| From
1990 until 1996 Chevy produced a futuristic minivan
called the Lumina APV. It should not be confused
with the Lumina
sedan/coupe, which was a different vehicle entirely.

| The
APV was similar to 2 other GM offerings: the Pontiac
Trans Sport and the Oldsmobile Silhouette. There
were a total of 3 engines that were available in
its 6 years: a 3.1 L V6, a 3.8 L 3800 V6, and a
3.4 L LA1 3400 V6. Just in case you were wondering,
the APV stands for All Purpose Vehicle. It was based
on the GM U body platform. The design was so bizarre
many potential customers were probably scared off.
Some people just do not want their minivan to look
like some sort of a spaceship. The model line was
eventually dropped in favor of the Chevy Venture,
a much more modest design that is popular with a
broader group of drivers and looks more like competitor's
minivans. You can still find APV's on the used car
market, although you'll probably have better luck
using eBay than your local newspaper's classified
ads. You can also find parts on eBay, FYI. |
