| The
Chevrolet LUV (which stands for Light Utility Vehicle
FYI) was first sold in the United States in 1972.
It was a small truck meant to compete with the Toyota
Hi-Lux, Datsun pickup truck, and Ford Courier. |

| The
only engine option on the first models was a SOHC
inline 4 cylinder producing just 75 horsepower.
In 1977 power was upped to 80 hp and the truck got
a 3 speed automatic transmission and front disc
brakes. A larger bed option and longer wheelbase
in 1978 increased sales to 71,145. In 1979 it got
4 wheel drive, which helped earn it Motor Trend
magazine's Truck of the Year award. Chevy stopped
selling the LUV in 1982 as they decided to go with
their own truck, the S-10 (the LUV was designed
by Isuzu and rebadged for Chevy). With strong sales
during its final years of production, you can still
find a decent LUV on the used truck market, especially
with resources like eBay, where parts are also listed. |
