| The
1973 model included a trim variation called the
Landau, which was basically a different rear quarter
and a Landau roof. By the end of the 1970's the
Monte Carlo was downsized as oil shortages and price
increases forced consumers to seek more fuel efficient
cars. There were still some higher performance SS
models produced until production ended in 1988.
In 1995 it made a comeback on the W-body platform,
also found on the Lumina, Pontiac Grand Prix, Oldsmobile
Cutlass Supreme, and Buick Regal. A redesign came
in 2000 with LS and SS trims available. The newest
Monte Carlos have been once again redesigned for
2006, and the top engine option in now an LS4 V8
producing 303 horsepower. It will become a rear
wheel drive car again starting in 2008. You can
still find the older models for sale from used car
classifieds, and especially cheap online at sites
like eBay, where parts are also found. |
