| The
Nomad shared a body with another GM car, the Pontiac
Safari. Its design was considered radical for its
time, especially for station wagons, and it was
the halo model of the Chevy brand. Following 1957,
the 2 door specialty wagon was discontinued because
Chevy wanted to spend more resources developing
other "halo" models like the Bel Air Impala,
which would branch off and form the popular Impala
model. In 1958 the Nomad name was added to the Bel
Air 4 door station wagon, and the following year
it became a part of the Impala line, which took
over the name from the Bel Air. It remained a part
of the Impala line until it was discontinued in
1961. These cars are probably the most popular station
wagons on the collectors car market. You can find
them in both original and restored condition on
eBay, and you can also find parts, manuals, and
other great Nomad items there. |
