| The
1985 and 1986 models had a 1.0 L engine with a hemispherical
head carburated design. This should not be confused
in any way with the hemi motors made for Mopar vehicles.
The Sprint engine was very underpowered, but also
very economical. The original engine got 60 miles
per gallon, an amazing figure for a car of that
time. Fuel injection was later required, which pushed
mpg down to 48. The 3 cylinder engine was turbocharged
in the Turbo Sprint for 1987 and 1988. Color options
for these cars was limited to white and red. Cars
that were nearly identical to the Sprint were the
Suzuki Swift (which eventually got a 4 cylinder
engine) and the Geo Metro, which was the rebadged
name after 1988. If you are looking to buy one of
these fuel efficient cars (which sure would be nice
with rising gas prices) you should look on eBay,
where they typically have several for sale, along
with lots of parts. Typical savings are between
$250 and $750 off classified ad prices, which is
great if you can find one for sale on eBay from
your region of the country. |
