| Many
people do not realize that the Suburban name is
one of the oldest model lines in American automotive
history. Chevrolet started using the name in 1935,
although Dodge, Plymouth, and Studebaker were all
also using that name as well. |

| Some
platforms used on the Suburban include the AWD GMT400,
FR / AWD GMT800, and the FR / AWD GMT900. Prior
to the 1980's, the vehicle was known as the Suburban
Carryall, but this did not resonate well with the
SUV craze sweeping across the nation, so the Carryall
name was dropped, and Chevy became the only company
to continue with just the Suburban name on a model
line. It has traditionally been one of the biggest
SUVs on the market, only in recent years facing
competition from the Ford Excursion and Expedition
EL and the Toyota Sequoia and Land Cruiser. The
standard package includes 3 rows of seats and a
full trunk behind them. They have a V8 package and
terrible fuel economy. The Vortec 5300 V8 produces
295 horsepower, while the Vortec 6000 V8 makes 335
hp. Most offer optional 2WD or 4WD. Used Suburbans
are widely available going back to the 1960's and
70's. They are especially cheap if you can find
one eBay auctions. You can often find new or barely
used parts on eBay as well. |
