| Before
being replaced by the Crossfire in 2004, the
Prowler was the premier sports car in the Chrysler
lineup. The engine was only a 3.5L V6, but the
frame was very lightweight with an aluminum chassis,
and the drivetrain was the same as those on the
LH series cars. It was only available with a
4 speed automatic transmission, which likely
kept it from becoming very popular with the sports
car market, which tends to prefer manual transmissions.
It was still popular with a small niche of buyers,
who loved the open wheel design that no doubt
reminding many of the hot rods they drove in
the 50's and 60's, such as the 1932 Ford (the
"Deuce Coupe"). If you are looking to buy a used
Prowler, you can find them in many classic car
classified ads, although you can usually find
them for significantly less on eBay, where there
are almost always at least 5 or 6 listed. As
a general rule, buying a car on eBay is a good
deal if you can save at least $2,000 off normal
market price. With the Prowler, I've found that
savings is usually $2,000 - $3,000. |
