| There
are some purists who call the CX the last true
Citroen, as it was the last car designed by their
team before being taken over by Peugeot in 1974.
One of its more interesting features was the
unique hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension
system. It was sold as a 4 door sedan and a 4
door station wagon. It was a front wheel drive
car, which helped it manuever better than most
cars during the 1970's. It was eventually replaced
by the XM, but not before over 1 million were
produced. It had previously replaced the DS in
the Citroen lineup. Unlike the DS, the CX was
not sold in the US market until 1981. It was
banned because it could not pass the 5 mph bumper
crash test. Even after the ban was lifted, there
were no longer any Citroen dealerships around
to sell it. Only about 600 were imported to the
United States market, the result of special orders
from very loyal customers. You can still find
one in the United States if you look hard enough.
Your best bet is to use eBay, where you might
also find foreign sellers who can hook you up
with parts for much cheaper than any American
supplier. |
