The 260Z was a continuation of the Z Series by Datsun,
which started with the 240Z in
1969.
The 260Z was first made for the 1974 model year. It featured
a longer stroke 2.6L engine and a 2+2 seating option. |

The 260Z was only sold in the United States for one
year, 1974, after which it was replaced with the
280Z.
In other countries, it was still available until
1979, when it was replaced by the 280ZX. In the United
States the 260Z was seen as a 240Z with reduced performance
to comply with emissions standards. Even though the
engine was bigger, the compression ratio and ignition
timing were changed to reduce emission. These changes
made it the least popular of the Z Series, and prices
reflected that. If you are looking to buy one, you
have several options. The first place I would look
is eBay, where they have the biggest selection and
also usually the lowest prices. For some reason,
the site still holds a stigma among car buyers, even
though they actually have a much more reliable purchasing
system than any other car buying method. If you can
save a few thousand on a car purchase, then it's
even worth it if the car happens to be on the other
side of the country, as it can be shipped or picked
up for just a few hundred dollars. |
