The 280ZX was officially the first second generation
Z-car to be produced. It's final year would come
in 1983 - it was replaced by the 300ZX the following
year. In its first year of 1979 it was named Import
Car of the Year by Motor Trend magazine. The only
thing it kept from the first generation was the L28
engine,
but it now had a turbo option. Even with that option,
performance was still not as great as the original
Z-car, the 240Z. The turbocharged version originally
came with a 3 speed automatic, but in 1982 and 1983
it was available with a Borg-Warner T-5 5 speed manual
transmission, which could also be found in American
cars such as the F-bodies and the Ford Mustang. If
you are looking to buy one of these 3 door hatchback
sports cars, you have a few options. They do have
classified ad catalogs just for Asian imports, but
they can't really compete with the ease of buying
online. Your best bet is to use eBay. They have more
listings, they're easier to find, and car prices
in online auctions tend to be much lower than classified
ad prices. |
