The Coronet had a couple of distinct lifespans. It
was a full size car from Dodge during the 1950's
sharing a chassis with the Royal and Custom Royal.
It was a mid size muscle car in the 1960's, and a
pile of junk in the late 70's.

The 1953 Coronet was one of the first cars to have
a Hemi engine, the 241 cubic inch Red Ram Hemi. With
this engine, the car broke over 100 land speed records
on the Bonneville Salt Flats. It came as a coupe,
sedan, or wagon during that decade. In the 1960's,
it was one of the first muscle cars when it was reintroduced
in 1965. Some of the engine options for some of the
later models in this generation included the 390
horsepower 440 and 426 cubic inch Hemi V8 in the
426-S trim. The 440 for 1969 could make 420 horsepower.
The Super Bee version of this car continues to be
popular among collectors. You can see one in the
movie The 25th Hour starring Edward Norton. You can
buy one in a number of places, including eBay. You
can also find plenty of Mopar parts there.
