The Sprinter replaced the Ram Van in the Dodge lineup,
although the Ram Van was wider and less efficient.
The Sprinter is a full size 4 door van with rear
wheel drive. There are only a few options on the
market for the full size van owner, so the Sprinter
is becoming popular with expediters, who make delivers
of smaller shipments and move city to city, waiting
for their next assignment. The Sprinter is also popular
with commercial delivery services like DHL, FedEx,
and I even saw a few used by UPS the other day. This
utility van is also popular among contractors and
plumbers. A problem with a seal in the turbo has
been very common in these vans, causing the computer
to limit speeds to 55 mph when this failure happens.
Dodge has not yet addressed the problem. If you are
buying one of these used, make sure to ask questions
about the turbo, and give it a real test drive (get
on the highway) before buying.
