Along with the Plymouth Breeze and Chrysler Cirrus,
the Stratus was known as one of the "cloud cars."
It was sold from 1995 until 2006, when it was replaced
by the redesigned Avenger.

The Stratus sold well and received lots of praise
when it was first introduced. It has received less
as it aged, mostly because competitors released midsize
sedans that were far more modern. The Dodge version
of the cloud cars, based on the JA platform, is the
mid-level model, with the Chrysler being the high
end and the Plymouth bringing up the rear. The SE
model of the Stratus was the base model with a SOHC
2.4L straight 4 engine. The ES model had a
DOHC 2.4 L standard engine or a 2.5L V6 engine. One
interesting design "feature" to note is the battery
location, which is forward the left fender. It is
easier to remove if the tire is removed, which has
created mockery from many critics. Later engines
for the Stratus included the 3.0 L Mitsubishi 6G72 V6 in the
coupe sold from 2001 until 2005. These cars are common
in the used car market, and you can buy them for
cheap on eBay. |
