Although the engine is typically referred to as a
flat 12, it is technically a 180 degree V12, as it
has flat plane crankshaft pins opposing each other.
The engine makes 390 horsepower. The original retail
price was $94,000, which is about $176,000 in 2006
dollars.
Perhaps the most recognizable design feature on this
car is the side slits that feed air to the radiator.
Some limited edition performance models were produced,
including the 512TR and 512M. The popular 80's TV
show Miami Vice featured a Ferrari Testarossa driven by Don
Johnson. It can also be seen in the Grand Theft Auto
video games, where it is called the Cheetah to avoid
any trademark violations. There were nearly 10,000
of these car produced in total, making them one of
the more common Ferraris. That said, these cars are
still very popular with sports car fanatics and car
collectors, so the price remains high. You can usually
find a few listed on eBay, and also some parts and
other related collectibles. |
