The engine options for this car included a 2.0L Vetec inline 4 and a 2.5L Duratec V6. Transmission options included a 5 speed manual or a 4 speed automatic. Although classified as a compact car, this was bigger than an Escort while smaller than a Taurus. I would argue that there did not need to be a car to bridge that gap, but I guess Ford executives are the experts (at losing billions of dollars a year). Trim levels on this car were the GS, LX, and SE. The 170 horsepower V6 engine was standard on the SE. The car was discontinued so the factory could be converted to make the Escape. Critics said the car didn't have enough interior room, but others argued that the car and the power and driveability lacking in most American cars. Ford did not fill that middle size gap again until the Fusion came out in 2006. You can buy Contours for real cheap on eBay, and you can also get some nice original parts or some really nifty aftermarket parts there. There are thousands of owners out there, so there is no short supply of custom parts. |
