1978 Ford F-250
The sixth generation of the F-Series lasted from 1973 until 1979. This would be the first iteration of the truck to offer automatic transmission. The F-100 also got a bigger brother, the F-150, which would be referred to as the heavy half-ton.

By 1976, this truck was the best-selling truck in America. It has held that title ever since. Some newer options included the extended super cab option, first sold in 1974, and the Lariat trim introduced in 1978.

Engine options ranged from a anemic 114 horsepower straight 6 all the way up to a robust 460 cubic inch V8. In between, there were the Windsor V8 engines and a variety of FE V8 engines. There was practically a little something for everyone's taste with this generation of Ford's legendary truck.

You can find these trucks listed on eBay, along with parts for nearly every year of the F-Series. Swap meets are also a good place to find parts and gain knowledge from people who have worked on them for decades.
