Although way behind the competition from Honda and Toyota, the Freestar does offer 4 speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. Engine options go up to 201 horsepower, although the 193 horsepower V6 was standard in the United States. Canada got the larger engine standard, because Ford likes Canadians more.
The Freestar was generally seen as a name change fiasco. Consumers could not see the difference from the Windstar, and sales slowed. The minivan was discontinued, and there is currently no Ford minivan to replace it. The Fairlane, an upscale sedan, will essentially replace it as the people hauler in the Ford lineup. I think people would rather go to Honda or Toyota for a minivan than buy an upscale Ford.
You can find plenty of these off lease on used car classifieds and on eBay. They sell for fairly cheap, and you can usually find parts readily available.
