Ford Tempo
The Tempo was a compact car made by Ford from 1984 until 1994. It came as a 2 door coupe or 4 door sedan. It was usually bought as a front engine, front wheel drive car, but the first generation could be bought as an AWD.

The most popular engine choice for this car was the inline 4 cylinder option. In the first generation, a Mazda RF diesel I4 was available as an option.

The first generation competed with the K cars and the J cars from the 1980's. By the second generation, the competition was gone, for the most part, as tastes changed and the compact car was no longer in vogue.

Despite strong sales, the Tempo was getting to look a little old by 1993. The following year it was replaced by the larger and more stylish Contour.

These cars are available on the used car market, and they tend to be very cheap. Expect to pay between $500 and $3000, depending on condition. In general, they sell for even less on eBay. That's a really good option if you can find a listing for one in your area.
