The first year of the Tracker was 1989. There was only a manual transmission option. In 1990, automatic transmission was introduced, along with the LSI convertible, an odd option for an SUV.
Along with the 4 door wagon model that was popular with buyers, the Tracker was also sold as a 2 door wagon and 2 door convertible. It was first sold as a 4 wheel drive car in 1996. That was also the first year four wheel antilock brakes were sold as an option.
If you are looking to buy one of these vehicles, I recommend a model from the 1995 model year or newer. In that year, multiport fuel injection was offered for the first time.
These cars are still common on the used car market. They have a boxy design that is not popular right now, which is good news for buyers who don't care about having that curved modern look. I suggest checking eBay before browsing the used car lots. The dealers are just as reputable, if not more so, and they tend to sell vehicles in quantity for lower prices than your local corner used car lot, which are usually run by mechanics who fix up cars that have been crashed and sell them. Getting a CarFax report for a vehicle listed on eBay is simple and gives you the assurance that the car you are buying does not have a hidden past. |
