The Pilot is the second SUV designed and built by Honda. It has been sold since 2003. It has a unibody construction and shares a drivetrain and underpinnings with the Acura MDX. In Japan and Australia this SUV is actually sold as a Honda MDX.

Under the hood, the Pilot carries a 24 valve SOHC VTEC V6 engine making 240 horsepower.

The two wheel drive model gets 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg highway. The four wheel drive model gets a little less, with 15 city and 20 highway. It can tow a 4,500 lb boat or a 3,500 lb trailer.

Although it can seat 8, the 3 people stuck in the back row will have very little leg room. Some luxury options on the interior include DVD player, entertainment system, moonroof, and navigation system.

This SUV has won Car and Driver Best Large SUV of the year for the years 2002 through 2006. It will be redesigned in 2009. The redesign will be based off the new 2007 Acura MDX. The Honda version will be more economical and utilitarian, with a lower price tag to boot.

These Pilots are very popular family vehicles. The demand a premium on the used car market because of this. You can buy them from a Honda dealer with one of those Honda certified used warranties, but you'll save a lot more money by buying from a private seller. The best place to find one is eBay, believe it or not.
