There were two generations of this vehicle. Although their engines were different sizes, both were V6's. The first generation was sold from 1996 through 1999, with the second sold from 2000 until 2004. The I35 was only sold after 2002.
There were two transmissions offered with the first generation: the 4 speed automatic and 5 speed manual. The second generation I series only included the 4 speed automatic.
Because it was only offered in a front wheel drive format, the I series was always compared to the Acuras and other luxury cars from Japanese brands, while left out of the same market niche as the BMW and lower-end Mercedes Benz.
These cars are fairly common on the used car market, and can be a very smart buy if you find one with a clean title and in good condition. Even though they'll be several years old, they are still luxury cars that have more class than a brand new economy car that might cost twice as much. Reliability has been better than average. Check on eBay for great prices on these cars and also on parts. |
