The Travelall was based off the R-series truck. Seats and side windows were added to make it useful for families. Two or three rows of seats were available.
With only two doors, the original Travelalls were a pain to get in and out of. The front passenger seat would flip down, allowing passengers to get past it and into the back rows. I guess that worked better than child-proof locks in keeping kids from falling out of the car on the highway.
Some popular modifications to this vehicle were the school bus and ambulance.
Some were also made into limos. I remeber our school district owned a school bus modded Travelall well into the 1990's.
Engines ranged from a 220 cubic inch V6 to a 392 cubic inch V8.
These vehicles can still be found working in various capacities. There are some listed on eBay right now. If you are looking for parts, I suggest going to eBay. You'd be surprised how many people are out there selling off their old and sometimes even unusued vehicles in parts. |
