The Sephia had two generations. The first was from 1994 until 1997. These first models had a 1.6L I4 engine, which was upgraded in 2005 to a 1.8L DOHC I4 except in those RS and LS models sold in the California market. I guess they didn't pass emissions.
These first vehicles did not perform very well in crash tests. Due to low safety ratings, they could not be sold in Canada. These first generation vehicles still cannot be sold in Canada. American drives may drive them into the country, but they will not be able to register them there. Canada did eventually get the Sephia in 1999.
The second generation Sephia got a new engine made by Kia and improved air conditioning. Hey, for cheap cars an improved air conditioning system is a major change.
The Sephia was replaced by the Rio in 2001 in the American market.
These cars can be found on the used market, but I urge you to be careful. Try to find one in working condition, preferably with low miles and previously owned by an elderly woman. You might be able to find some decent ones listed on eBay.
