The absense of the V12 engine made the Jalpa much more affordable than the flagship Countach. The 3.5 liter V8 made 255 horsepower.
This was more of a driver's car than than the Countach. It had better visibility despite many internal reflections when driven at night.
Although the reported top speed is just 146 miles per hour, many owners have reported higher numbers. Lamborghini may have fudged the numbers lower to appease insurance companies, as this car was built for people who cared about how much their car costs and probably could not afford the flagship model.
Only 419 of these cars were produced, which is actually a fairly high number for pre-Diablo Lamborghinis. After Chrysler took over the company, they saw falling sales and decided to end production. Who would really want a Lamborghini made by Chrysler anyway?
This car can be seen in Rocky IV, when Rocky Balboa is having one of those flashbacks to the past complete with a video montage. Uggh.
One feature that many people find amazing about this car is the height. It stands just 3 feet 8 inches high at the roof!
You can find these for sale at collector car auctions and on eBay listings.
