The Murcielago has a 6.2 liter V12 engine and a choice of either a 6 speed manual or 6 speed E-gear transmission. The E-gear works electronically without a clutch.

All Murcielagos come with 4 wheel drive standard, with a system similar to that used in the Audi Quattro system.

The first major upgrade of this car was shown at the Geneva Motor Show in 2006. It is the LP640, and it has a bigger 6.5 liter engine. A roadster version will also be available and both will replace the original Murcielago models.

With a top speed around 210 miles per hour and a 0 to 60 time under 3.5 seconds on the new LP640 models, this is the top performing production Lamborghini in history, and also very popular amongst rappers and other pop culture figures.
