The LX is now on its third generation. The first generation lasted just 2 sales years, from 1996 through 1997. The LX 450 was essentially a rebadged Land Cruiser, with few added improvements to make it stand out as a luxury model. It did get a better interior and a softer suspension. The inline 6 cylinder engine made just 212 horsepower and left much to be desired among buyers who wanted a big and powerful engine to match their big SUV. Despite this, the vehicle won awards for having the best initial quality, which can be considered the mantra of the Lexus brand.
The second generation LX 470 lasted for much longer than the first. It was sold from 1997 until 2007. The new 4.7 liter V8 engine made 268 horsepower and was a much better fit for this vehicle. The LX 470 is loaded with standard features, including premium sound, DVD navigation, bluetooth, and a backup camera. Some of the cooler options included rear DVD entertainment and the Lexus Night Vision infrared camera system. The base price for the 2007 model was over $67,000.
The third generation started with the 2008 Lexus LX 570. It has a massive V8 engine making 381 horsepower, quite an improvement from the vehicle that was sold just 11 years earlier.
Lexus' are not always easy to find on the used market. They tend to have very high demand, which keeps prices high. The best place to find one is on eBay.
