There have been two engines that have been sold with this car. They are the
Rover K-Series and the 1.8 liter Toyota. Combined with the low weight of this car, the Elise can reach speeds of nearly 150 miles per hour.
The engines might not be very powerful when compared to those in other sports cars, but they are lightweight and with the fiberglass body shell and bonded frame this car is basically a go cart with a regular car engine.
There have been several different variations of the Elise. They include the Series 1, Series 2, and multiple special editions.
I've been seeing these cars on US streets for many years, but they were not sold commercially here until 2005. The car had to get special approval, as it does not pass the strick headlight and bumper standards. The models made for 2007 and after should have the proper headlight and a 2.5 mph bumper in both the front and rear, although the front one may be hidden.
The Exige is a hardtop version of the Elise. They also tend to have sportier specs.
These cars are still very rare, but you can find them for sale without much effort. I suggest searching on eBay before going anywhere else. |
