The MC12 comes with a massive 6 liter V12 engine. It makes 630 horsepower and propels this car to a top speed of 205 miles per hour.
This car was built so Maserati could compete in the FIA GT. They made a MC12 GT1 to race in that series, but one requirement to race is the production of at least 25 cars for road use. That forced Maserati to make a new supercar for the general public. Although the race versions did win some circuit cups, they were penalized due to size and weight restrictions on the American Le Mans Series, which prevented them from winning any races in that series.
The road car is sold as a coupe with a targa top that can be removed. There is not enough room to store the roof in the car. This car has a mid engine, which keeps the weight distributed evenly.
The interior of the MC12 has more luxury options than many supercars. It does lack a stereo, but it has leather and Brightex interior finishings.
This is the type of car that will very rarely be offered for sale to the public. Only a select few got to buy them new, and most are going to hang on to them until they pass away. You can find some nice posters and memorabilia on eBay.
