The first generation of this car lasted from 1970 through 1974. The car had a 4 cylinder engine making 104 horsepower. It was sold as both a sedan and a coupe. When this car was slightly tweaked and a Mazda rotary engine was added, it became the RX-2.
The second generation lasted until 1982 and featured rear wheel drive. It also used an I4 engine.
The Mark 3 version of the 616 was the first to have front wheel drive. It was sold from 1983 until 1987.
This car line was discontinued in 2002 to make way for the Atenza, which is called the Mazda6 in North American markets.
These cars are out there on the used car market. Some of the older models are quickly becoming considered classics, so expect to see prices rise on good condition examples. You can find some good deals on eBay, along with parts that you'll have trouble finding anywhere else.
