Unlike the Mazda6, the Mazdaspeed6 gets a turbocharged engine making 274 horsepower. It has direct fuel injection and conforms to new emissions standards.
This car also gets 4 wheel drive standard. That makes it great around the corners and a viable contender in a race against such competition as the Subaru WRX STi and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.
These cars have been sold since 2005 as 2006 models. Even though this car is an upscale version of the Mazda6, it's actually got two trim levels itself. The Sport is the base trim with cloth interior, while the Grand Touring is the upscale trim with leather interior, keyless ignition and entry, and an optional DVD navigation system.
The redesigned version of this car makes its debut in 2009. The current version does 0 - 60 in 5.3 seconds, so the next generation will have to set the bar even higher.
These cars can be found on the used car market, thanks in part to teenagers who buy them but can't afford the payments and insurance. Try looking on eBay for cheap used Mazdaspeed6's and a myriad of parts, both original and custom aftermarket mods.
