The 190 was powered by a variety of I4 engines, along with an I6 and a couple diesel and turbo diesel variants. These engines were paired with either a 4 speed automatic, 4 speed manual, or 5 speed manual transmission.
Some of the variations of this car were the 190E, which had the inline or straight 6 cylinder engine, the 190E Cosworth with a racing engine, and the very rare Evolution models. The Evolution models were only built so Mercedes Benz could race the car in certain circuits that required certain production numbers.
At the time of the 190's production, AMG was still a separate company that tuned Benz's. They got their hands on this car and whipped up a rather trick version of this car with 25 more horsepower and an aero body package.
These cars still have a following among Mercedes fans and car collectors alike. It seems that the 190 is destined to become a classic. There are many owners clubs around the world dedicated to this car. If you are looking to buy one, take a look at the listings on eBay. You can also find some cheap parts on there.
